MORE TEENAGERS ARE KILLED BY ALCOHOL THAN ALL OTHER DRUGS COMBINED.

Many teens are drinking to self medicate...
a symptom of a larger problem.

The average age of the first alcoholic drink for boys is 11 years old, for girls 13.

Approximately 4,000 deaths occur from binge drinking per year.

The leading cause of death in our youth 15-23 years old are car crashes, homicides and suicide. Alcohol is the leading factor in all three. (NIAAA)

Parents, ask yourself "What is happening or not happening in my teen's world that they would need to self medicate? Why would they rather be in an altered state of consciousness?"

When surveyed, most teens feel that their parents would disapprove of their using alcohol. Talk to your kids; they care what you think and do not want to lose your respect and pride in them.

Wait up for your teen after they have been out to just "be there." This will reinforce to your teen that they are important to you. It can also provide them with an excuse to not participate in behaviors of which you wouldn't approve. "I can't drink tonight, my mom will be waiting up."
