Never assume you know a parent so well that you're embarrassed to ask them where they stand on underage drinking or co-ed activities. Ask them if they will be home the entire time, if alcohol/drugs/guns will be locked up and make sure they have your phone number in case of emergency.

Socially informed parents understand the huge responsibility and legal liabilities they assume when hosting teen and pre-teen parties on their property and should welcome your questions and understand your concerns. Socially uninformed parents cannot protect your child! Never let your teenager go on spring break, spend the night or attend a party without knowing who the adults are that will be supervising and responsible for your child. Make sure your son or daughter knows what your expectations are and that you are willing to come pick them up anytime they feel uncomfortable.
