1 in 4 girls between ages 14-18 currently have an STD, the most popular being HPV, the chronic genital wart virus.

Teens are more at risk of STD infection because of risk-taking behaviors such as alcohol use, drug use, multiple partners and improper condom use.

Gardasil is a new vaccination available to girls up to age 26 which prevents HPV, the cause of most cervical cancers.

Don't be afraid to be explicit about how these diseases are spread and the repercussions of contracting them. Your teen's life is at stake; talk to them accordingly.

Talk to your teenager regularly about sex. Make sure you are knowledgeable about the subject of STDs before you talk to teens about it. If an STD is suspected with your teen, medical treatment should always be obtained from a health care provider.

Cervical cancer is the 2nd leading cause of death in women. A new vaccine called Gardasil has been designed to guard against cervical cancer and genital warts. Consider this for your daughter. This new vaccine is proven to be highly effective for young ladies (ages 11-12) before they have been exposed.
